The Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI) has officially announced the return of its flagship event, Unstoppable Africa 2024, scheduled to take place on September 25-26 at Cipriani’s in New York. This gathering, now in its third year, is positioned as a critical platform aimed at cementing Africa’s place in the global economic landscape.
As a side event to the 79th UN General Assembly, Unstoppable Africa 2024 promises to bring together influential leaders from across business, government, and the United Nations, continuing the initiative’s mission to position Africa as the foremost destination for trade, business, and investment. This year’s theme, “The Solution for a Global Future,” underscores Africa’s evolving role in addressing global challenges such as energy transition, digital transformation, and inclusive growth.
The event builds on the success of the 2023 edition, which attracted more than 3,000 attendees—both online and in-person—including heads of state, business leaders, and cultural influencers. Notable achievements from the previous gathering included Ghana’s bold commitment to a $550 billion Energy Transition and Investment Plan, positioning itself as a leader in sustainable energy by 2060. Additionally, the African Development Bank’s partnership with Google highlighted Africa’s commitment to digital literacy and coding, crucial for empowering its burgeoning youth population.
Key discussion points for 2024 are expected to revolve around Africa’s growing influence in global industries like electric vehicles and battery manufacturing, led by advancements in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Other topics include women’s economic empowerment through initiatives like SheTrades and public-private partnerships, such as the UNDP’s Timbuktoo project aimed at transforming Africa’s startup ecosystems.
With Africa’s growing economic potential, Unstoppable Africa remains a significant event to watch for anyone invested in the continent’s role in shaping a sustainable global economy. The event’s line-up of speakers and additional details will be announced in July, with more updates to come on how GABI continues to work in alignment with Africa’s Agenda 2063 and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
